The idea of putting glasses on a dog has been around for a long time. At the beginning of the last century, mountain guides in the Alps started to protect their avalanche search dogs from snow blindness with sunglasses. Other applications have been added over the years. Rex Specs goggles are used by army, border guards and police service dogs to protect against eye injuries. Even blind dogs use glasses as protection from injury when they rummage through the bushes. It’s actually quite simple: wherever you wear safety goggles yourself, they cannot harm your dog at the same time.

For service dogs they are often used for interventions, for jumps from high heights, eg from the helicopter, etc … Avalanche dogs are protected against snow blindness with genuine sunglasses. With the Rex specs, the eyes of your four-legged friend are protected against UV rays, just like yours, at the sea, in the mountains or in the snow. All lenses, including clear ones, have 100% UV protection. The polycarbonate lenses are unbreakable and can be easily exchanged. In the shop you will find a selection with different colors and light protection.

The coating of the mirror lenses is applied on the outside and of course a bit more scratch-sensitive. Small scratches or scrapes on the mirror coating are less of a problem for dogs than for us. Dogs orient themselves more in the distance with their eyes. Dogs mainly use their sense of smell at close range.

Which are the right size glasses for my dog?

There are two measuring points on your dog’s head:

• Measuring point (1) is the circumference of the head just behind the eyes
• Measuring point (2) is the circumference of the muzzle immediately behind the end of the mouth

If your dog is in between sizes, the larger size is usually the better choice
